CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – 5th District Congressman Bob Good accuses Albemarle County of misguiding his campaign over the county board of elections canvassing of the Republican primary votes. Good’s first media appearance was on Steve Bannon’s War Room where Bannon asserted again the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump. Good asserts a Wednesday canvassing meeting started early, and a John McGuire representative was there while his campaign was never notified and had no one there.

County registrar Lauren Eddy said the board indeed did a noon Wednesday provisional ballot meeting where the provisional ballot outer envelopes were opened, and they learn what kind of provisional ballot it is. No actual decision is made whether a provisional ballot is valid or not until the public canvassing meeting, but the initial meeting is closed because there’s a lot of personal voter information exposed. While the 2pm public canvassing meeting is posted on the website, they have never posted the provisional meeting there because it’s closed. She says one representative from each campaign can come to the provisional meeting, but they do not reach out to the campaigns to notify them. She says the reason a McGuire rep was there because they called that morning asking about the meeting. Eddy says they will consider posting the closed meeting time to their website in the future.

Good has won two prior 5th District elections and has never had a rep at an Albemarle County board provisional ballot meeting but have been at canvassing. Good says he will take advantage of the time in the recount process to which he’s entitled to investigate any appearance malfeasance because every legally cast vote should be counted.
