CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – After a turbulent summer, gas prices are set to remain steady as July ends and August begins.

AAA’s Mid-Atlantic spokesperson, Morgan Dean, reports that the national average rose by only 2 cents last week, currently at $3.52 per gallon. In the Charlottesville area, the price of a gallon of gas stands at $3.43, just a penny higher than it was at this time last year.

The average price in Virginia is $3.41, down 4 cents from the previous year. Dean attributes the slight increase in prices to a storm-related outage at the ExxonMobil refinery in Joliet, Illinois.
