CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Charlottesville City Schools Monday observes Charlottesville 12 Day for September 8, and a presentation of a General Assembly resolution honoring them happens that morning outside the Albemarle County Office Building at Preston and Ridge.
At 10 a.m., Charlottesville Delegate Katrina Callsen will present House Joint Resolution 750 passed during the 2025 session to Charles Alexander, one of the surviving members of the group of 12 students who enrolled in Charlottesville’s previously all white public schools September 8, 1959. There are historical markers outside Trailblazer Elementary (then known as Venable Elementary) and the former Lane High School, now the Albemarle County Office Building, that were installed in 2011. This presentation happens next to the County Office Building marker location.
