CHARLOTTESVILLE (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Black Knights Athletic Club announces successfully reaching their fundraising goal toward outdoor track lighting at Charlottesville High School and crews will install the new lighting in June. City of Charlottesville crews will do the work at the Curtis Elder Track & Field Facility the first week of that month. The B-K-A-C notes this as “a major win not only for student-athlete safety”, but also for “access for the broader community, and the return of regional meets to CHS”.
For years, track athletes were forced to curtail winter practices at dusk which occurs as early as 4:54pm during the darkest days of winter. Not only will these lights allow later winter training, enabling of hosting regional track meets gives a chance to showcase the school while providing additional revenue for the school and community.
