Fred Jackson “Jack” Easton, 94, of Charlottesville, peacefully went home to Heaven on September 16, 2024.

He was born on December 28, 1929 in Albemarle County, and was the son of the late William Wallace and Beulah (Clements) Easton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 76 years, Louise (Keller) Easton; five brothers, John, Lawrence, David, Richard, and James Easton; and three sisters, Carrie Rush, Florence Critzer, Virginia French and son-in-law Charles William “Bill” Cookenour.

Jack graduated from Scottsville High School and Jefferson Business School. He was employed by the Virginia State Water Control Board where he retired in 1991. Jack ushered and sold tickets for the University Of Virginia Athletic Department for many years, while cheering on the Cavaliers. After retirement he worked at Hill and Wood Funeral Home assisting family members in a compassionate, caring, and sympathetic way during their time of loss. Jack was a member of the First United Methodist Church (now Charlottesville First United Methodist Church) for 70 years. He was very active within the church, volunteered many years as Sunday School Treasurer, worked on the property committee, ushered the 8:30am services, but the most rewarding to him was serving others during the Monday Soup Kitchen. Jack was a lifetime member of the Charlottesville Volunteer Fire Department where he held several positions. He was a lifetime member of the Charlottesville Host Lions Club where he served on several committees since 1974.

After Jack’s retirement, he continued being active with the soup kitchen, fire department and the Lions Club. Jack took loving care of his wife during her illness. Jack was a loving and caring person to all, especially his family. Even during his last day, he was thanking the nurses and telling his family he was sorry to be a burden. Jack was always putting and thinking of others first.

He is survived by two children, Jacqueline Easton “Jackie” Cookenour of Charlottesville, Virginia Easton Gibson, and her husband, Thomas Leslie Gibson of Palmyra; two grandchildren, Christina Rizzo and her husband Vincent “Vince” Rizzo and Jasmine Mawyer; great-grandchildren, Winter and Alex Mawyer; sisters-in-law, and a number of cousins, nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members and friends.
