CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – In the legendary Virginia Sports Network radio call of Warwick Dunn falling short of the goal line in UVA football’s 1995 win over Florida State, the Seminoles first-ever ACC loss, Frank Quayle is heard saying, “They’re gonna say no!” But in 2025, it’s Frank Quayle and family saying “yes” to a $5-million planned gift to Virginia Athletics. A Virginia Athletics and Virginia Athletics Foundation release says,”in addition to being one of the greatest football players in program history, (Frank J. Quayle III) served as UVA football’s longtime radio color analyst and is regarded as pillar in the Charlottesville community.”
“The idea of a family gift to Virginia Athletics by Frank’s wife, Peggy, and his three children, Jay, Willie and Kelly, was initiated as a tribute to his legacy, and the transformative role the University has played in their lives. It will support Virginia Athletics by advancing academic excellence, championship programs and student-athlete development,” the late Friday announcement said.
In recognition of the gift, Virginia Athletics will name the lobby of the forthcoming Olympic Sports Complex the “Frank J. Quayle III” lobby. Click here for the complete announcement.
