Milt (Francis Milton) Creighton III, was born in Griffin, Georgia, on Sept. 2,1944, and departed this life on November 9,, 2023, at the age of 79, in Charlottesville, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Colonel Frank (Francis Milton) Creighton II, and Aline Marie (Simms) Creighton. He was the loving husband of nearly twenty-three years to Faye (Mitchell) Creighton; dear father of Duke (Allison) Creighton, Matthew Creighton, and Molly (Jesse) Creighton; loving stepfather to Dae Grodin; beloved brother of Aline Marie ”Teensy” (Frank) Weldon, Townley (Bill) Whalen, Edith Harmon, and Susan Wymer; and dear grandfather of Lola, Sabine, Chloe, and Aimee Creighton, and Rachel Dickens. Milt is also survived by his former wives, Shelia Jean Weisenborn and Philippa “Fa” Creighton, who remained a close friend. He was also a dear uncle, cousin, and colleague – and a friend to many.
As the son of a U.S. Army officer, Milt lived in many places, including two locations in Germany; Fort Benning, Georgia; and Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He graduated from Orleans American High School in France in 1962, attended prep school in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and graduated from West Point Academy in 1968 with a degree in electrical engineering. After serving as an officer in Vietnam, he worked in military intelligence at the Foreign Science Technology Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was greatly respected by his colleagues and often gave briefings and presentations in the United States and internationally.
Milt pursued many interests, and took on the role of Dungeon Master for his notoriously rowdy Dungeons and Dragons group. He studied military strategy, and for a long time, he read nearly a book a day, including numerous works of science fiction. A wonderful storyteller with the warmest smile, he often shared incredible adventures he had experienced. Milt also enjoyed writing and authored two books in the Sherlock Holmes Solo Mysteries Series: The Dynamiters and The Royal Flush, both published in 1988. His brilliant, intuitive mind and deep knowledge of human psychology made him an amazing mentor to those close to him, and he participated in a men’s group that provided a space for friends to talk about various aspects of their life experiences.
Along with his insight into human behavior, Milt had a passion for animals. His many pets brought him immense joy, and he loved spending time with his Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.
The family wishes to express gratitude to Milt’s caregivers from Visiting Angels.
