PARIS (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Former Cavalier defender Emily Sonnett and the U.S. Women’s National Team won the gold medal match on Saturday against Brazil.

The center-half has been an integral part of the American defense throughout the games, making several starts and appearing off the bench in nearly every other contest.

On Saturday, she faced her toughest test yet. Coming off the bench, she had to keep a Brazil team led by living legend Marta at bay.

Thanks to a gutsy effort, the American women held firm in defense and secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory with a goal from Mallory Swanson.

This is Sonnett’s second Olympic medal; she won bronze as a member of the team in the Tokyo 2021 tournament.
