AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (CVILLRIGHTNOW/ROCKTOWN NOW) – A former Augusta Health employee has been sentenced to three months in jail after pleading guilty to stealing credit cards from emergency room patients.
Jill Claffey, of Lexington, admitted guilt to six felony charges—three counts of obtaining a credit card and three counts of credit card forgery—as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors. In exchange, four additional charges were dismissed.
According to an affidavit from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, Claffey was accused of stealing credit card information and cash from patients on multiple occasions between September 2022 and October 2023.
A judge sentenced Claffey to five years in jail, suspending all but three months.
