PALMYRA, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Fluvanna County administrators are warning against fraudulent emails being sent to residents that appears to be originating from the county’s Department of Planning and Zoning. The county says these emails contain false and misleading information regarding recent applications and indicate additional action, as well as payment via wire transfer, may be required before final approval is granted. It does not appear that a data breach has occurred as the information contained in the emails appears to come from the use of publicly available information obtained from the County’s website.
County administration notes official county emails will come exclusively from the “@fluvannacounty.org” domain, the county will never request a payment via wire transfer, and all correspondence should be directed to an official county department email. If you receive a suspicious email claiming to be from Planning and Zoning, don’t click on or respond to any links, and report it immediately to “planning@fluvannacounty.org”. When in doubt, call the department directly at 434-591-1910 to verify communication. If you received one of these emails and have made a payment, contact the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office at 434-589-8251.
