CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flood Watch for Charlottesville, Albemarle County, Greene, Madison, Orange, Culpeper, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Rappahannock, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Southern Fauquier, Gordonsville, Waynesboro, Stuarts Draft, Staunton, Harrisonburg, Culpeper, Luray, Fredericksburg, Shenandoah, Wintergreen, Stanardsville effective from 5 PM to 11 PM today (Tuesday).
Thunderstorms this afternoon and evening could bring intense rain rates exceeding 2 inches per hour, increasing the likelihood of flash flooding if storms are repetitive or prolonged.
Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible in these regions. The NWS warns that excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Urban areas with poor drainage are particularly at risk.
