CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) While most of the heavy weather activity Tuesday stayed south and east of the area, Wednesday is another day to be weather aware as the weather service has established a flood watch from 2 p.m. until midnight with rainfall rates up to 2-inches-an-hour possible in heavy thunderstorms.

Weather forecasters say numerous thunderstorms will move across the area in that time period, and flash flooding is possible in places where heavy rain persists over a long time period.

Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, and streams and other low-lying and flood-prone areas. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Residents are urged to monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should a flash flood warning be posted.
