CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The National Weather Service has extended the flood warning for the James River at Scottsville, where minor flooding is ongoing. The warning remains in effect until early Tuesday afternoon, affecting Albemarle, Fluvanna, and Buckingham counties. As of 12:15 p.m. Monday, the river stage was recorded at 21.7 feet and cresting. Flood stage is set at 20 feet, and the water level is expected to drop below this threshold just after midnight before continuing to recede to 12.7 feet by Thursday morning.
At 17 feet, the Ferry Street gate in Scottsville is closed, and at 22 feet, the Main Street gate is closed. The warning also applies to other sections of the James River at Bent Creek in Nelson, Buckingham, and Appomattox counties, as well as the Roanoke River at Brookneal and Randolph. Officials urge residents to avoid flooded roadways and low-water crossings. Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or through standing water.
