CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Albemarle County opens Biscuit Run Park to the public Saturday. The first phase of a 75-space parking lot off Scottsville Road south of I-64 is complete along with eight miles of trails, and the county will open those at noon. They will have a 10am ribbon cutting with remarks from county leaders and staff. White Hall Supervisor Ann Mallek told WINA Morning News Thursday she’s looking forward to it, and it’s been a long time coming. She says the land was in a development area, and the state under Governor Tim Kaine purchased it as state park land. However, the land languished with no funding or execution of a park plan.
Mallek said the county was able to get the project going with a 99-year lease agreement for a county park. While various attempts at state funding were made, a lot of the work was able to be performed with COVID funds. The trails will have different designations with some set aside for biking. Still to come are grass playing fields and restroom facilities that will open at a later date. Click here for the park information.
