SHADWELL, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Four adults and three children are being helped by the Red Cross along with family and friends after a fire at their Gelletly Road home Saturday afternoon. Albemarle fire got the call around 1pm for a chimney fire in the 2700 block of Gelletly off Milton Road in the Ashmere community. Firefighters arrived in 10 minutes to find smoke coming from the eaves and the fire from the chimney had spread into the attic.
Though they were able to extinguish the fire in the attic space only, the family had to leave. The cause is under investigation, though they believe combustible material around the single-wall chimney ignited.
