Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – As summer transitions into fall, Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall is gearing up for a series of vibrant community events, according to Greer Achenbach, Executive Director of Friends of Charlottesville Downtown. Reflecting on the success of the summer, Achenbach noted the positive energy in the area, stating, “It seems very, you know, vibrant and lots of people out having a good time.”

One of the highlights is the popular Downtown Express, a kid-friendly train that runs every Saturday. “It used to be just at the holidays, but now it runs every Saturday, every weekend,” Achenbach shared. The free train ride offers families a fun 7-8 minute tour of the mall, beginning at Central Place by the fountain.

Looking ahead to October, the much-anticipated Doggy Halloween will feature a pet costume competition, complete with treats for dogs from local businesses. “It’s the best energy,” Achenbach said with excitement. Additionally, the upcoming Magic on the Mall will bring holiday joy with light installations, scavenger hunts, and festive drinks, ensuring a season full of fun activities for the community.
