Elsie Mae Mills, 76, of Keswick, Virginia departed from this life on Thursday, August 8, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Minnie Patterson Scott and Herbert Leroy Scott Sr. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert L Scott Jr. and Lorenzo A Scott. Her cousin, Shirley Jordan who was more like a sister, and her aunt Pauline Hughes and uncle Russell Hughes, whom she cherished as second parents.
Elsie accepted Christ into her life at an early age and was a member of Union Run Baptist Church. She was a part of the Women’s Ministry under the leadership of Delores Scott, Zion Baptist Church North Garden Virginia, which she faithfully participated in until her health prevented her from doing so.
She received her education in Charlottesville Virginia, Graduating from Jackson P Burley High School, class of 1967.
Elsie worked for many years at Frank Ix and Sons as a machine operator until the factory shut down. After this closure, she went on to work at several different Laundromats in Charlottesville. Neither of these were her passion or career jobs, she finally attended the International Beauty School in Charlottesville and received her Cosmetologist License. She became one of the Instructors there and taught for many years, where she touched the lives of many students.
She was a member of the Ebony Social Club Ministry, it was there that she enjoyed many gospel singing programs, family and friends but her favorite part of any of those programs was Bobby’s good soul food cooking, which you better not waste, as Bobby would say “I worked hard cooking that food, don’t get no more than you can eat.” She was a dedicated Washington, Redskins fan as she wasn’t too fond of their new name, the Commanders.
