Edward Marshall Pryor, III, 78, of Charlottesville formerly of Keene, passed away on June 10, 2024. He was born on July 29, 1945 to the late Edward Marshall Pryor, Jr. and Gayle Arundale Pryor. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Nancy Richardson Pryor, and their son Edward Marshall Pryor IV.

He is survived by his brother Walker Pryor (Katie) his sisters; Deborah Pryor Fisher (Greg), and Judith Pryor Plescow (Stephen) and by his daughter-in-law Susan Pryor and his nieces and nephews; David, Chris, Ellie, and Ashley.

Marshall was a lifelong resident of Charlottesville and was well known in the community, in particular for his long career in the clothing business, the Young Men’s Shop on the downtown mall, where he worked for 35 years, eventually retiring from the position as Manager and Shareholder.

After his retirement from the Young Men’s Shop he was a founding employee of both the Old Dominion Bank and the Albemarle First Bank serving on the Board of Directors of both and also working as a Loan officer.

He loved traveling the world with Nancy, the Homestead, parties (of which he threw many at his home) UVA sports, Golf, a good book, cocktail, but most especially he cared for his many friends and was generous to a fault.

He took tremendous Joy in playing the role of Santa Claus for many area events and families.

For Marshall, his career was a way to meet new friends but also to support his civic involvement and philanthropy. He was a Charter member of the Blue Ridge Mountains Rotary Club and the only member thereof to serve twice as president. He was also president of the Charlottesville/Albemarle Jaycees and was the state representative to the National Jaycee Association. Additionally he was president of the Dogwood Festival for many years. As well as a member of the local Elk’s Lodge #389 and the Tri-County Riding Club located in Keene, Va.

His entire life he gave back to his community serving on the Board of Director’s of: the Salvation Army, the Retail Merchant’s, the United Way, The Chamber, and was President of the Twentieth Century Merchant’s Foundation. Later in life he served as the chairman of the Board of the Charlottesville Parking Center, Inc. and was President of the Water Street Parking Garage Condominium Association, along with countless other civic engagements. He also received many accolades for his civic works including the Paul Goodloe McIntire Citizenship award in 2004, and was a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, among others..

He was a lifelong member of the Episcopal church and served in many roles within the church over the years in particular as Senior Warden at Christ Church Glendower.
