Druscilla Mae Hollins Lee, age 93, was born in Charlottesville, Virginia on March 18, 1931, to Sallie Frye Hollins and William Hollins. She was their only child. She entered eternal rest peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the Albemarle Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Druscilla graduated from the historic Jefferson High School of Charlottesville in 1949. She attended and graduated from St. Augustine’s College in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1953. In 1954, she married Paul Amos Lee from Salem, Virginia. To this union was born one son, Paul Joseph Lee. She taught elementary school first in the Louisa County Schools and she spent the rest of her teaching career with the Charlottesville City Schools at Jefferson School and Johnson Elementary School. She loved teaching and she truly loved her students. After she retired from teaching, she served as a substitute teacher at Clark and Venable Schools for numerous years. She also tutored numerous children in her home at no charge.
At an early age, she was baptized and confirmed as a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church of Charlottesville. She was a faithful and supportive Trinity Church member for eight decades until her health prevented her from attending. She had an extraordinary heart for giving and sharing with others. She was very much a “servant leader” through her relationships with her family and friends. She was especially supportive of the NAACP and the annual Freedom Fund banquet.
Druscilla leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted son, Paul J. Lee and his wife, Frances Allen Lee. Survivors also include her daughter, Roslyn Covington, She is also survived by her other devoted son and his family, Carlton, Valerie, and Jasmine Gregory. Survivors also include her bonus children, Shelia Gale Whitehead Hines, Portland Johnson Smith, Linda Freeman Black, Gwedette Reynolds Crummie, Myrtle Houchens, and Kim Coles Swift. She is also survived by her long-time and very devoted friends, Teresa Walker Price, Shirley Thompson and Janette Boyd Martin. Her special bonus grandchildren include, Robert Bernard Lovett Davis, Lamont Swift, and Arnold Crummie. She was also godmother to Keith Douglas and Donnell Douglas. She was predeceased by her goddaughter, Tiawanda Lysette “Tina” Holt.
