CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – After a summer of moderate-to-severe drought conditions, the new Virginia Drought Monitoring Task Force map shows our area in normal conditions. Rains initially in August from Tropical Storm Debbie, more frequent showers and storms in ensuing weeks, and overall cooler temperatures have led to improving conditions Middle James and Northern Piedmont designated DEQ areas in our region.

The Shenandoah region, that includes Augusta and Rockingham counties in our area, continues to have Drought Warning with groundwater in an emergency state. Drought Watch advisories are issued for Northern Virginia and Virginia’s Southwest tip from Grayson County west.
