Dora Marie Brock, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many, passed away at her home in Charlottesville on January 31, 2024. She was born in Charlottesville on August 9, 1957.

Dora’s life was marked by love and compassion for others. She dedicated herself to caring for the elderly as a Certified Nursing Assistant at various nursing homes throughout her career. Her selflessness and nurturing spirit touched the lives of countless individuals under her care.

In addition to her professional endeavors, Dora found joy in simple pleasures. She loved playing bingo with friends and family members and spent cherished moments completing puzzles that brought both challenge and satisfaction. Dora had an unwavering commitment to those around her; she enjoyed spending time talking on the phone with loved ones and always made sure everyone felt heard and valued.

Her faith was also an integral part of her life; she found solace in attending church services at Cedars Nursing Home where she sought spiritual guidance alongside fellow residents.

Dora is preceded in death by several dear family members: her mother Annie Brown of Charlottesville VA; father, Paige Early; husband, Robert Philandow Burton; sons, Bernard Brock; and Khalil Powell. Their memories will forever live on through those who knew them best.

She leaves behind a legacy of love that will be carried forward by those who cherish their memories with Dora: a daughter, Khalesha Powell; sisters, Sylvia Anderson of Madison VA and Diane Brown of Charlottesville VA; brothers, David Brown of Charlottesville VA and Tyrone Early; twelve grandchildren whom she adored deeply along with two great-grandchildren who were the light of her life.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice care team for their compassionate support during this difficult time. They would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at the University Of Virginia Medical Center for their dedication in providing exceptional care for Dora during her final days.

Dora’s absence leaves a void that cannot be filled but it is our hope that we can find comfort knowing that she has left behind an enduring legacy built upon kindness, love, devotion, strength – qualities which continue to inspire us all today.
