ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) –

Albemarle County Police continue to update the community on the condition of a dog involved in an animal cruelty case that gained widespread attention after a viral video surfaced. On January 17, police confirmed that the Animal Protection Unit (APU) transported the dog to the veterinarian for a thorough examination and found to have no significant or life-threatening injuries.

Following discussions with authorities, the owner voluntarily surrendered the dog to the APU, and the animal is now under their care. According to their latest update, the owner remains charged in connection with the incident with court proceedings still pending.

“We understand the emotional impact this video has had on our community and want to assure the public that we are committed to holding individuals accountable for any violations of the law,” ACPD said in a previous update.
