CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The prospective owner of 200 West Main Street goes before the city Board of Architectural Review Wednesday for approval of appropriateness for demolition of the current structure. The Violet Crown still remains, and ownership has not changed, though Heirloom Development has a contract pending to purchase the 200 West Main property which allows principal Jeff Levien to submit land-use applications.
He went before City Council last week inquiring and contesting city procedures he says are complicating if he can do what they actually want to do. Levien said he’s talking with a local nonprofit housing organization with which he’d like to build 200 apartments with affordable housing, but it’s hard to nail down height and stepback requirements during the planning process.
