Della Dooms, 68, of Charlottesville, Virginia departed her life on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the University of Virginia Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. She was born March 21, 1955. She was preceded in death by her father, William Thomas Dooms, Jr. and her mother, Della Dooms-Younger.
She was employed by Dooms Cleaning Service and soon became Payroll Clerk, Bookkeeper and a driver for the company for many years.
Della was a faithful and dedicated member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church, White Hall, VA. She served on the Deaconess Board along with other duties. There was seldom a Sunday service that she did not attend.
She leaves to cherish her memories a son, James Lorenzo Dooms, and a grandson, ShaDonte’ Cabell, both of Charlottesville, VA; four sisters, Brenda D. Washington, Denise Dooms, Tina D. Turner, and Virginia Dooms; five brothers, William T. Dooms III, Houston F. Dooms and wife, Karen, Ronald E. Dooms, James Dooms and Timothy L. Dooms all of Charlottesville, VA. She also leaves a devoted nephew, Maurice Dooms, nephews, Captain Clifton Dooms, Allen Dooms, Ronald Washington, and Jesse Watson; and a great-nephew, Taejon Washington; two devoted nieces, Tina Dooms and Stacey Washington; several devoted friends, Joyce Taylor, Tara Taylor, Tyesha Hill, Rahiem Monroe and Pamela Bringhurst all of Charlottesville, VA; a loving and devoted friend of 53 years, Angaleen Luck-Goodloe; a Goddaughter, Demetrise Luck and children of Palmyra, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
Della had a big heart and great love for her family and friends. She enjoyed their company, would often play music and chat with an undying smile. She loved children and often looked at her nieces and nephews as “her children”. Of course, there was a special place in her heart for Maurice, whom she checked in on every day and ShaDonte’ and Taejon who spent many weekends with her. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and seldom turned anyone away.
A special thanks to Captain Clifton Dooms, Captain Marc Ellis and the Charlottesville Fire Department.
