“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1

Delanta Rondell Toney was born July 11, 1971, to his loving parents the late Jerry & Gladys Toney in Washington, DC. He was raised with love from both his immediate family and his extended family and spent many summers and holidays “down south” with his beloved grandfather, grandmother, uncles, aunties, and cousins who were more like siblings. He was born and reared in a Christian home and knew God as Lord and savior.

Delanta was educated in the public schools of Washington, DC. He was well known in the city of D.C. and surrounding areas. He was well liked and known for his outgoing personality. He was known for always having an answer, whether he really had an answer or not! He loved people and people loved him. After many years in D.C. Delanta relocated to the Charlottesville, VA area where he made his mark on the community and area.

Delanta was many things to many people. Delanta was an only child and to his parents he was the “center of their world.” To his sons he was their “protector”. To his cousins back home in SC he was known as “Country”, a name that followed him from SC to DC. To his beloved in-laws he was called “Mr. D”. To his granddaughter Laila who he was raising in the home, he was simply her “Papa”. His life touched the lives of many while here on earth and his mark will forever be embedded in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Preceding him in death are his parents: Jerry Toney and Gladys Ozetta Gainey Toney.

Those left to cherish his memory is his loving sons, Delano Toney and Antonio Christmas; the love of his life, Nykeia Washington; his children-in-love, Isaiah Washington, Jaikeira Washington and Nakeira Washington; His grandchildren, Laila Toney, Nivek Christmas and Kassidy Christmas; His loving sister & niece; Lakesha Toney & Asia Alexander; His mother-in-love, Maria Howard; His aunts: Joan Bull, Ruby (Charlie) Bishop, Barbara McDaniel, Cynthia (Maxilee) Brown, Elder Shirley (Roosevelt) Williames, Debra Graham, Winnie Richardson, Mary Toney and Charlotte Toney; His uncles: Clarence Toney & Jerome Toney; His God-parents: Pastors Lonnie & Gail Johnson; God-brother, Micah Johnson; and a host of extended family and friends.
