CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A Heat Advisory is in effect today (Monday) from 11am-to-8pm for heat index values as high as 107, and the National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for Tuesday 11am-to-8pm for heat index values approaching 110. Scattered storms are expected today (Monday) with more storms Tuesday midday into the evening.
Precautionary/Preparedness Actions:
- Drink plenty of fluids and stay in an air-conditioned room.
- Stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors.
- Never leave young children and pets unattended in vehicles.
- Take extra precautions if working or spending time outside. Reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
- Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
- OSHA recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Move anyone overcome by heat to a cool and shaded location.
- Heat stroke is an emergency. Call 911.
