CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The weather’s going to be at the top of the news the next few days as dangerous heat arrived in the area starting Sunday, continuing through Tuesday. Today, we’re looking at a heat advisory from 11AM-to-9PM for heat index values up to 108, and the National Weather Service has already posted an extreme heat watch for Tuesday from 11AM-to-9PM for heat index values up to 111. Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
The weather service advises hot temperatures, and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Limit outdoor work during these times. Take breaks inside in air conditioning if possible if you must work outdoors. Wear light-colored, loose-fit clothing and continually drink fluids. And make sure your pets are indoors with plenty of water, as well.
City cooling centers are open Monday and Tuesday at the Key Rec Center at 800 E. Market St. from noon-to-9PM; Central Branch downtown of the JMRL at 201 E.
