Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – University of Virginia second-year student Lily Simpson and her sister Lindsay, a student at UNC Chapel Hill, have spent nearly a decade making a difference through Cville Sock Love. Their initiative has donated over 30,000 pairs of socks to those in need within the Charlottesville community and beyond.

In 2016, a winter donation drive at a local dental office highlighted a critical need for socks, an often-overlooked item compared to more common contributions like coats or hats. Recognizing this gap, the Simpson sisters launched Cville Sock Love to address the need. Over the years, their initiative has grown substantially, forming partnerships with organizations such as the UVA Community Credit Union, Kindness Cafe, and the Virginia Discovery Museum to provide support to those in need.

The initiative isn’t just about socks, it’s about community. “We just want to help anyone in the Charlottesville community and the surrounding areas who’s in need and who just needs warm socks,” Lily added.

This year’s drive runs through December, including a Bingo fundraiser at Random Row Brewery on December 18. Participants can join the fun by donating $5 or bringing a multi-pack of socks. More details are available at Cville Sock Love’s Facebook page and website.
