CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Something exciting is happening at Caring For Creatures, and this November, we’re inviting our community to be part of it. From November 6–17, Caring For Creatures will host our online auction, Bid for the Fences, with proceeds helping fund the fencing for The Dan Schmidt Dog Pod.

The Dog Pod is a first-of-its-kind, eco-friendly, earth-sheltered building designed to give dogs in our care a quieter, more comfortable and enriching place to live while they wait for their forever homes. Constructed using the equivalent of approximately 25,000 recycled plastic bottles, the building features eight individual dog rooms, each with direct access to its own approximately 30′ x 40′ outdoor run.

And that’s where the fences come in.

We’ve selected Double Heritage aluminum fencing for the outdoor runs, providing a safe and secure space with a design that prevents dogs from climbing. Once completed, each dog will be able to step directly from their room into their own outdoor area to play, explore, stretch their legs and simply enjoy being a dog.

With eight large runs to fence, it’s a significant project. Our overall fundraising goal for the fencing is $100,000 and Bid for the Fences will help us move closer to making those outdoor spaces a reality.

The auction will feature a fun mix of donated items, gift certificates, experiences, getaways and more from businesses and friends throughout our community. Whether you’re looking for something special for yourself, getting an early start on holiday shopping or simply want to support the dogs at Caring For Creatures, every bid makes a difference.

We’re also still welcoming donations from local businesses and individuals who would like to be part of the auction. Donating an item, service or experience is a great way to support Caring For Creatures while introducing your business to our community. Throughout the auction, participating businesses will be individually highlighted on our social media as we showcase the people and organizations helping make Bid for the Fences possible.

Interested in donating an item? Donations can be submitted directly through the auction page, or you can contact Kristen Townsend at kristen@caringforcreatures.org.

Mark your calendars for November 6–17 and get ready to bid!
