PARIS, FRANCE (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Charlottesville star swimmer Thomas Heilmann will not be taking home a medal from the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The 17-year-old finished 6th in his semifinal race for the 200-meter butterfly. To reach the event final, he needed to post a top 8 time between both semifinals, but he finished 10th overall.

In both races at the Paris games, Heilmann competed against world-record holder Kristof Milak of Hungary. Thomas placed fourth this morning in the heat that Milak won, with both men qualifying for the semifinals. In this afternoon’s semifinal, Heilmann shared the pool with Milak again, with the Hungarian emerging victorious once more.

Heilmann, at 17, finishing just two seconds behind a world-record holder, is undeniably impressive. He can return home proud and excited for the long, successful career ahead of him.
