CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Three days after circulating surveillance photos of a suspect, Charlottesville Police have made an arrest in connection with the Sept. 12 shooting on the city’s Downtown Mall.

Kejuan Augustus Anthony, 18, was arrested in the city Friday and charged with attempted malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

CPD responded to a report of gunshots being fired during a large disturbance in the 300 block of East Main St. about 1:53 a.m. Saturday, CPD announced. No injuries were reported, but some nearby businesses sustained property damage. Investigators found seven 9mm cartridges near the CVS store at 300 East Main St.

According to a CPD release, detectives obtained surveillance video footage from the Downtown Mall and observed the suspect moving in and out of the camera’s view. At one point, the suspect displayed a firearm before concealing it. Tuesday, the department circulated still photos of the suspect from that surveillance footage.

In its release announcing Anthony’s arrest, CPD thanked the United States Marshal’s Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Charlottesville Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office for assisting in the investigation.
