CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Organizers expect to see University of Virginia students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the Charlottesville community gather at the Rotunda on Friday for a noon rally and march against the Trump administration’s “Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education” as part of a National Day of Action against the “Compact.”

UVA is one of nine academic institutions that received what critics call an ultimatum: include no consideration of race, sex, or other factors in enrollment, financial aid or hiring decisions, or lose millions in funding.

The 10-page agreement would also require that the universities bar transgender people from using restrooms or playing in sports that align with their gender identities and capping international undergraduate student enrollment.

The other schools that received the “Compact” University of Arizona, Brown University, Dartmouth College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Southern California, the University of Texas, and Vanderbilt University.
