CHARLOTTESVILLE (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Charlottesville City Council last night heard a 2026 budget tweaked up $265.2-million, up significantly from this year’s nearly $252-million, and up a little bit from what City Manager Sam Sanders proposed last month. That was $264.4-million. The agenda item says the nearly $763,000 difference is money projected from this year’s budget to remain unspent as of June 30.
While there are not tax rate increases, the increased budget takes advantage of higher real estate tax bills still with assessments up an average 8.1% for residences, and 6.1% for commercial entities. The plan includes more than $79-million in operational expenditures, as well as nearly $10-million for transportation and capital projects all for city schools alone.
Council will work through the final numbers Thursday night, and vote next Monday April 14.
