CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – City Council tonight considers appropriation of about half of last year’s approximately $25-million budget surplus. Up for a public hearing is spending a little over $12-milion initially put in the CIP on some priority items Council and citizens have advocated over the years. Among the list of expenditures is $775,000 in mall improvements of a manager, lighting improvements, and a long-term restroom solution. There’s $425,000 in a 2-year street outreach pilot program involving homeless intervention. For emergency management, a $600,000 appropriation is considered for meridian barriers, which is a set of city-owner barricades tested during the Tom Tom Festival, as well as $75,000 for 2 fire  and rescue department drones.
