CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Charlottesville City Council tonight (Monday) begins formal consideration of spending nearly $28-million of money not yet in the 2025 budget… including $22-million extra left over from fiscal 2024. At a work session, City Finance Director Chris Cullinan said a reason for the surplus is they conservatively project what revenues the city’s going to bring in, and what expenditures they’ll make. He and staff recommend the traditional deposit of the money into the CIP contingency fund until Council decides how to use it during the year.
The rest of the money essentially is carried over essentially from reserves. No decisions will be made tonight as it’s the first of two readings on a funding resolution. Council will hear the proposal and have a public hearing. Click here for City Council’s February 3 agenda.
