CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Virginia Treasury and the Charlottesville Treasurer’s Office are bringing an Unclaimed Property Name Search Event to Charlottesville Friday. The state’s Department of Unclaimed Property will be at City Hall Friday 10AM-to- 2PM to assist visitors with searching and claiming any unclaimed property that may be owed to residents of Charlottesville and Albemarle. Examples of Unclaimed Property include old bank accounts, securities, insurance payments, utility refunds, or other lost checks.

The state treasury says the Unclaimed Property Program’s mission is to reunite rightful owners with their dormant or inactive asset accounts that have been escheated or turned over to the Commonwealth of Virginia. Residents are encouraged to stop by City Hall on Friday to check the State’s Unclaimed Property Database and get assistance with starting a claim.  For more information, you can contact the Treasurer’s Office at citytreas@charlottesville.gov or 434-970-3146.
