CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Charlottesville Police Chief Mike Kochis tells Morning News about the press conference he held July 15 on the Nassau Street incident… the public deserves to know the truth. And it’s important the department tells people as much as can be told, or “people will just make stuff up”. However, he said it’s readily apparent there’s still a lot of trust-building the police department has to do.

He says no one has substantiated anything counter to the initial investigation findings into the death of Ed Anderson that evening. He says misinformation is unfortunate, and they’re speaking with people who’ve lost a loved one and deserve to know the truth.
Kochis says there’s a lot of work to do in the community, “Because I could get out there all day and say these are the facts, this is what’s happened, I could brief the family, we could show family stuff, but if people don’t trust what you’re saying you’re just talking to a wall.”

He said this investigation “is still very open and active”, and they’re still waiting on forensics to return from the state lab, something he’s asked the state Secretary of Public Safety to expedite.
