CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – The Virginia Department of Transportation and the City of Charlottesville are conducting a joint study on potential improvements at the Ridge Street, Water Street, and U.S. 250 Business (West Main Street) intersection, and are seeking public input through an online survey open until April 7.

According to a March 25 release from VDOT, the effort is part of its Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) program, which evaluates current traffic conditions, identifies safety and operational concerns for all users, and develops cost estimates for proposed alternatives. The intersection is described as a key connection point to the Downtown Mall with a confusing layout that poses challenges for drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians, and transit users.

VDOT reports that daily vehicle volumes in the vicinity range from about 2,000 on West South Street to 21,000 on Ridge Street and Ridge McIntire Street.

Residents can provide feedback through the survey at publicinput.com/ridgestreetstudy.
