Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW): The Charlottesville TomSox (7-10) earned their first win of the season against a squad from the Northern Division of Valley League Baseball on Sunday night, beating the New Market Rebels 10-6.

First inning struggles continued for Charlottesville pitching, especially at CHO Airport Field, with New Market taking a 2-0 lead on a balk and sacrifice fly.

After the pitching found its groove, the offense got to work.  Old Dominion slugger Tanner Schaedel cut the lead in half with an RBI single to make it 2-1.  The Rebels did extend their lead back up to 2 in the top of the fourth, but the Sox powered up to seize control of the game in the bottom half of the frame.  Jackson Sirois made it two for the Sox with an RBI single.  A wild pitch and an RBI walk later and Charlottesville was leading 4-3.

Charlottesville would notch six more on some big RBI hits from James Nunnalee of Mississippi State and Perry Hargett of UNC.  Despite surrendering two runs to the visitors in the ninth, the Sox earned their 260th win in franchise history by a score of 10-6.

The TomSox will head to Culpepper on Monday evening to square off with the Cavaliers.  First pitch is set for 8:00pm, likely in an effort to let the heat subside.
