Charlottesville, VA (cvillerightnow.com): Yesterday, it looked for a moment that the Charlottesville TomSox would be getting just a bit closer to the .500 mark in the first ten games of the season against the Staunton Braves on the road. Unfortunately, though a five-run rally is impressive, it was not enough to win the game, as the Braves found a way back over the top and onward to victory, 6-5.
TomSox pitching woes and poor defense yet again put the visitors in 4-0-hole courtesy of a homerun and two-run double in the second, and one more in the third. It took the Sox until the fifth inning to cross home plate for the first time, TCU slugger Preston Gamster knocked home Cole Cleveland with an RBI single. FIU power bat Adonys Velez ripped a solo shot over the centerfield wall to make it 4-2. A zero in the bottom of the fifth from Cville pitching teed it up for Kyle Langley to make it 4-3 on a Hudson Lutterman RBI single. Lutterman scored on two wild pitches to know up the score with Walker Buchanan at the plate. The Virginia man would end up scoring to earn his squad on the lead on yet another wild pitch, making the score 5-4 Sox.
Regrettably for Charlottesville, that was all the offense the team could muster, a two-run homerun for the Braves sank the Sox, and the game ended 6-4. The result moves the Sox to 3-6.
The Sox will return home tonight to take on the Strasburg Express at CHO Airport Field on the campus of Charlottesville High School. First pitch is at 7:00pm.
