Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – In a move that could reshape the local educational landscape, Charlottesville officials are considering rezoning for the city’s schools—a change not undertaken in over half a century. Clayborne Test Prep and Tutoring CEO and chief education consultant Lee Elberson, emphasized the importance of this adjustment, explaining that the goal is to address overcrowding and balance classroom sizes, which can influence educational outcomes.

“If it hasn’t been done in 50 years, there probably is a need for it,” Elberson said, noting that the current distribution of students leads to class sizes varying significantly across schools, which “will affect student outcomes.” He encouraged families to participate in the upcoming discussions at three local schools and through Zoom the following week, stressing that community input is essential.

Elberson also highlighted potential challenges. “What might have been a smaller classroom size may get an increase of students, so maybe student outcomes decrease in that specific instance,” he said, adding that family logistics and friendships could also be impacted by the proposed changes.
