CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Charlottesville City Schools has scheduled two “Mental Wellness Days” for staff members in its upcoming academic calendars. “In hearing from our staff, and as a former teacher myself, I know that it can be very difficult to find a moment’s rest during the academic year,” said Superintendent Dr. Royal Gurley. “Teachers are supporting student success not just during the school day but after-hours as well. These paid days off are one way our division can help teachers press pause.’”

In the 2025-26 school year, the Mental Wellness Days will be on Friday, September 19, and Friday, March 6. In the 2026-27 school year, they will be on Friday, September 18, and Friday, March 5. The School Board approved these academic calendars on December 5, and on these designated days, all schools and offices will be closed. “These paid days off are set aside explicitly to give our hardworking staff a chance to recharge,” said School Board Chair Lisa Larson-Torres. “Charlottesville City Schools recognizes that staff well-being ultimately supports student learning.”
