Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Sean Tubbs, an independent journalist with infocville.com, joined Cville Right Now Live, providing updates on the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority’s (CRHA) latest efforts to expand affordable housing in the city. The CRHA is set to acquire three new properties in Fifeville and Harris Road for nearly $3 million, using extra funds to ensure long-term affordability. “If we buy these, we can keep them affordable,” Tubbs said, emphasizing the authority’s goal of maintaining naturally occurring affordable housing.
In recent years, CRHA has focused on acquiring properties to prevent market-driven rent increases and preserve older units. “They’ve gotten into all sorts of affordable housing projects over the last few years,” Tubbs explained, noting a previous acquisition of 74 units from the Dogwood Housing portfolio.
While these latest purchases are significant, Tubbs highlighted that no city money is involved in this particular transaction, a key point in discussions about affordable housing financing in Charlottesville.
