Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – In a recent interview on WINA Morning News, Charlottesville Police Chief Michael Kochis highlighted the importance of community collaboration in solving cases. Referring to a recent shooting incident, Chief Kochis emphasized how community-submitted video footage was instrumental in aiding the investigation. “They’ve made a ton of progress… We’ve put those videos out there, people have come forward with videos,” he said, explaining the role of residents in police efforts.
Chief Kochis also addressed rising frustration among residents and officers regarding repeat offenders, particularly juveniles. “It’s frustrating when they get a sentence as a juvenile of four months, and they’re released after two months back into the community, and they’re the same people involved in these incidents,” he stated, underscoring the challenges law enforcement faces with the current system.
Despite these frustrations, Chief Kochis praised his team for their dedication to public safety, emphasizing their quick response and ability to apprehend dangerous individuals in critical situations.
