CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Charlottesville Police Department Chief Micheal Kochis has been named the Charlottesville Area Rotary Citizen of the Year.

Rotary Club of Charlotteville said that since assuming the role of chief, Kochis has emphasized trust-building, transparency, and collaboration between officers and residents—fundamental values that continue to shape the department’s mission.

“I’m incredibly honored to receive this award,” said Chief Kochis, “but it truly is because of the collaborative and whole of community approach we as a department have taken. The progress we’ve made is the result of working together, with mutual respect, trust, and a shared commitment to safety and well-being.”

The Rotary Citizen of the Year award is given annually to individuals who demonstrate outstanding community engagement and service.
