CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – As Charlottesville Police Chief enters the third year in his position, he’s entering it with a third annual town hall Tuesday night at 7 at Carver Rec Center. His first was just weeks after becoming chief in 2022, and he did it again last year… and he’s ready to do it yet again. He tells WINA’s Morning News neighborhood walks is one way, and this is another as part of the obligation to engage with the community. He expects to go over what CPD has been doing over the past year and wants to hear from community members what they want to see for the next year. Kochis says the day he cannot sit in a room and have face-to-face difficult conversations about disparities, or race, or policing issues is the day he should not be doing this job anymore. He says there will be mechanisms on CPD’s social media and online pages to submit questions beforehand if you would like… or you can ask them there.
