CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – A 41-year-old Charlottesville man has been charged with assault and battery following an altercation that left another man seriously injured on the roadway near 4th Street NW and Preston Avenue.

According to a March 12 news release from the Charlottesville Police Department, officers were flagged down around 9:21 p.m. on March 11 for a report of an unresponsive male lying in the street. Officers administered life-saving measures until medics arrived and transported the victim to UVA Medical Center.

The man allegedly involved in the altercation with the victim was identified as Timothy Woode. Police say Woode was taken into custody at the scene on unrelated outstanding warrants before being charged in connection with the assault.

Woode is currently charged with Assault and Battery under Virginia Code § 18.2-57. The victim remains hospitalized in serious condition.
