CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A Charlottesville motorcyclist attempted to flee from a traffic stop in Greene County, leading to a crash and his arrest.
Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop Samuel Lawrence for a traffic violation Friday, but Lawrence fled, leading to a pursuit that ended when he wrecked the motorcycle he was riding. Lawrence was taken into custody after a foot pursuit and brief struggle, according to a release from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
“Thankfully no deputies or citizens were injured,” the release said. “We want to remind everyone that fleeing from law enforcement is extremely dangerous. These situations put not only the person fleeing at risk, but also deputies and innocent people on the road. A simple traffic stop is never worth risking your life or the lives of others.”
Lawrence went to a local hospital Friday, then was arrested Sunday, a collaborative effort between the Albemarle Police Department and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, according to the release.
He is charged with felony eluding a law enforcement officer, obstruction of justice, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, driving on the wrong side of the road, displaying fictitious tags and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
