Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Alzheimer’s Association continues to provide vital support to the hundreds of thousands of Virginians affected by memory impairment, offering resources to both patients and their caregivers. As part of their ongoing efforts, the Charlottesville community is preparing for the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, scheduled for Sunday, October 27th, at the Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital campus.

Matt Laird, the event chair, joined WINA Morning News to discuss his motivation for leading this cause, highlighting his personal connection to Alzheimer’s. “I’ve had a personal experience with Alzheimer’s… seeing all that experience, made me want to get involved in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s,” Laird shared.

Laird emphasized the significance of the event as a primary fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association, which supports medical research, advocacy, and caregiver support. He also noted the excitement surrounding recent advancements in Alzheimer’s research, particularly those emerging from the University of Virginia. “It’s great that just right here in Charlottesville, we have a lot of cutting-edge research that’s going to go towards stopping or slowing down the disease,” Laird said.

Participants can still get involved by forming teams and fundraising through alz.org. The event promises to be a powerful moment of community and support for those affected by Alzheimer’s.
