CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Charlottesville Fire Department responded to a fire in an recreational vehicle/motor home on Franklin St. on Wednesday afternoon. A search of the camper revealed it was unoccupied, according to fire officials on the department’s radio frequency.

The fire was reported at 3:52 p.m. and by 4:16 p.m. officials on the frequency said it had been contained.

A nearby apartment building at 706 Franklin St., described as a structure with multiple apartments, had fire and smoke exposure, officials on the frequency said. A neighbor had told responders that a person had been staying in the RV, but the search found no people inside.

Smoke from the fire was visible for blocks away, including from Carleton Road.
